Initiated by TedX, couple Bi-cycle rally was organised in Marine Drive, in Raipur on 16th of September. The main motive behind organising this event was to break the status quo that bicycle is driven only by sports enthusiast and the fitness freaks. It is true that cycling has numerous health benefits, like it tones calf muscles, decreases the chance of stroke and heart diseases. But if you think clearly you will find that cycling has numerous other benefits as well. Cycling is the only vehicle that does not contribute to any kind of pollution. So what’s stopping us from incorporating cycling in our daily lives?
The organiser Harsh and Utkarsh says that, the main reason behind this bicycle rally was to encourage people to pick up the good old habit of cycling. Given the numerous environmental benefits of cycling, Ozone day was chosen as the day of the event. Nowadays people use car or bike even to travel the shortest distance and in the process contribute towards the environmental pollution. This initiative was taken to educate such people about both physical and environmental benefits of a bicycle. More than 35 cyclists participated in this event.
People who participated said, it was like reminiscing the good old days. Cycling with their loved ones, singing songs and getting lost in the early morning gentle breeze, it became one of the most memorable days of their life. This event was live covered by media, so that more and more people can get motivated to pick up cycling as a daily habit.
Remember as a kid how we used to go for cycling with friends, siblings, cousins in the evening and sometimes even race with each other. So what happened after we grew up? Why did we give up such a healthy and beneficial habit? As it is said, it is never too late to pick up a good habit. So, get yourself a cycle, if you don’t have one, or if you already own one, then take it out and go for a ride. It is very easy to fit in cycling in your daily life. You can use it to go to nearby shops, park or friends house. Riding bicycle is fun, healthy and best form of exercise.
