No words are apt enough to describe the journey of Renuka Yadav, a native of Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh.
Coming from a lower middle-class family, Renuka used to go door-to-door to sell milk as her parents worked as domestic help. But today, defying all odds, she was a part of India’s women hockey team, and represented the country at the Olympics Games held at Rio.
You can see the complete story in this video made by the folks at The Better India:
Renuka, who has become the first woman Olympian from Chhattisgarh, was delighted with the fact that Indian women’s team qualified for the prestigious event after a gap of 36 years.
Here’s a few of her pictures which show the glorious run she had!
Though the Indian Women’s Hockey team is out of Rio Olympics, we are proud of Renuka for holding the Indian flag high.
We also hope this inspires many from our state to take up competitive sports without any barriers.
